Africa can become the food basket of the world by unlocking its more than 60% of uncultivated arable land.
Africa must:
i). shift from basic subsistence to modern, tech-driven agriculture
ii). expand irrigation
iii). empower smallholder farmers through formalized land rights and innovative financing
iv). invest in climate-smart infrastructure

v). expand water-harvesting to reduce dependency on rain-fed farming
vi). establish modern storage facilities and robust cold-chain logistics to reduce the millions of tonnes of produce currently lost to spoilage during transit
vii). invest in agricultural research and development to develop climate-tolerant and pest-resistant crop varieties that are adapted to local environments
viii). use mobile-based training and precision agriculture to give farmers actionable, real-time data on soil health and weather patterns
ix). provide targeted financial resources, training and micro-credits to empower women and youth in the agribusiness sector. #food
